The Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Malta and the Maltese - Czech Society with the assistance of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome celebrated the National Day of the Czech Republic with a reception at the Valletta Water Front Pinto Wharf, Valletta on Monday 17th October.

Mr. Robert Tripes, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome, deputizing for HE Libor Secka Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Malta, welcomed HE The President of Malta and Mrs. Fenech Adami, the Minister of Tourism and Culture Dr Francis Zammit Dimech, President's Emeritus Dr Censu Tabone and Dr Ugo Mifsud Bonnici together with their spouses, various members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, members of the Czech Community and the Maltese-Czech Society and other distinguished guests.

In his speech Mr. Tripes dwelt on the excellent relations existing between Malta and the Czech Republic and the various cultural and philanthropic activities which are being planned for December 2005 and 2006. (speech attached)

In his reply, The President of Malta referred to the State Visit he had made in Prague in January 2005 and also on the support which the Czech Republic is giving to Malta with regards to the illegal migration problem. The President also had words of praise for the various cultural initiatives which the Czech Republic is organizing in Malta and was looking forward to receiving the live Czech Tree which will be used during the Christmas Campaign being organized this year by the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The President and Mr Tripes than proposed toasts to the Czech-Maltese friendship and to thee health and well being of the President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus.

The playing of the two national anthems played by the F. Chopin Brass Band was followed by a most colorful performance given by the band at its Majorettes.

The perfect moon lit evening held against the Valletta Waterfront backdrop came to an end when the most attractive Czech Majorettes asked the various male VIP's present to join them in dancing to popular tunes played by the Brass Band.
