Czech Republic heralds Christmas in Malta - a living piece of the Czech Republic for Malta
The Czech Republic will be donating a live twelve meter Christmas Tree to Malta to be used by the Malta Community Chest Fund during their charity campaign for Christmas 2005.
His Excellency Dr Edward Fenech Adami, President of the Republic will switch on the Christmas tree set up in Freedom Square Valletta on Saturday 17th December 2005 in the presence of The Hon. Prime Minister and Mrs Gonzi, The Hon. Dr. Alfred Sant, leader of the opposition, H.G. The Archbishop Mon Giuseppi Mercieca, Czech nationals and members of the Maltese - Czech Society with a background of Czech traditional Christmas tunes sung by a traditional folk group who will be coming over to Malta purposely for these festivities sponsored by Czech Tourism . A Ballet Performance by the Prague National Theatre is being held at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta on the 16th December at 19.30hrs. Booking opens on Monday 5th December 2005.
The event is being made possible following the co-operation recently established between the Manoel Theatre and the Prague National theatre and with the support and sponsorship of Corinthia Group, HSBC plc and Skoda Auto.
A spokesman for the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Malta expressed his satisfaction at the arrival of this live tree which was made possible through the support and assistance being received from the University of Budiovcize in the Czech Republic, The Czech Tourism Authority, Malta International Airport plc, Sea Malta Co. Ltd and the Republic Street Business Committee Association.
